Avoid peak post-party times. Many New Year’s Eve parties run until at least midnight, so it’s better to drive between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., and then wait again until 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Driving between midnight and 1 a.m. is peak time when people are leaving the bar or party and heading home.
Check the weather report. You should be prepared for the weather conditions on the road so that you know what supplies to bring for your car.
Choose a designated driver. If you’re going to be traveling by car and don’t want to rely on taxis all night, choose a designated driver who will stay sober and drive everyone in your group. Not only will your journey be safer, a sober driver will be able to respond quickly to drunk drivers sharing the road.

Book a room. Why not make a night of it? If you’re traveling to a party, book a room at a nearby hotel so that you can get there early, enjoy the day, and not have to worry about driving back home that night.
